Stress and Fertility

Sara’s ‘modus operandi’ is no secret – if you want to get pregnant you need to look at your lifestyle. Often the problem can be due to stress and anxiety. When you are stressed your body enters into a ‘fight or flight’ programme, going on total alert to ‘slay the dragon’ or ‘run from the dragon’ which causes the adrenal glands to release the hormone cortisol throughout the body and the blood supply to increase to all the sensory organs. With cortisol coursing through the body, other body systems suffer i.e. digestion, reproduction etc. Cortisol actively prevents the reproductive hormones from working!

Put simply, if your body is ready to ‘slay the dragon’ but you and your partner decide to stop and have sex because you wish to make a baby, your body’s reproductive system is not prepared for this because of the cortisol.

Stress and Reflexology

Sara Proudfoot is a member of the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) as a reflexologist and an aromatherapist and as such can offer clients with Health Insurance or Cash Plans from companies that recognise the CNHC the opportunity to re-imberse their treatments.  The CNHC is recognised by the NHS and approved by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care (PSA).  The PSA is accountable to Parliament and has advised government that CNHC registrants have an important role to play in improving the health and wellbeing of the nation.  The public and those who commission the services of complementary healthcare practitioners can choose with confidence, by looking for the CNHC quality mark.  Sara trained in 2000 at Essential Care Training College, London under the excellent tutelage of the Head of the School, Joyce West.  Sara received a Diploma in Reflexology, accredited by the Reflexology Practitioners Association (RPA) and her Diploma in Holistic and Clinical Aromatherapy is accredited by the Aromatherapy and Allied Practitioners Association (AAPA).  Joyce West has long since retired so the AAPA and RPA are no longer active and are now the Complementary Health Professionals.
